SRFC Youth Policy

Our Philosophy
Southend RFC ‘s aim is to promote youth and community development within Southend through a commitment to excellence in rugby football.

The club believes that youth rugby can assist in providing the essential elements of teamwork, physical exercise and interaction which are beneficial in the growth and development of children. The club further believes that there is place within rugby for players of all abilities and ambitions and that the game provides a means of continued recreation, friendship and sportsmanship into adulthood.

Southend RFC is one of the premier rugby clubs in Essex and is justly proud of the record of performance of its senior sides. The club is determined that its future can be enhanced and consolidated by ensuring the development of youth rugby to promote the progress of players through the youth sides into senior rugby.

Coaching and Playing
SRFC has a growing youth section and we provide opportunities for young people between the ages of 6 and 18 to receive rugby coaching and competitive play in fixtures and festivals. RFU qualified coaches who are trained and have been screened for their suitability for working with young people provide all coaching. We aim to have at least two coaches for each age group.

Coaching sessions for all age groups are held from 10:30 am until about 12:30pm on Sunday mornings at the clubs ground at Warner’s Bridge Park. Additional sessions for older age groups are held on Wednesday evenings.

The season starts with registration which is usually the first Sunday in September and finishes with our Awards Day which is usually the last Sunday in April.

We are really keen to attract new young members to the club, particularly in the age range from 6 to 12.

All boys and girls are welcome to come along and give us a try. You don’t need to have any experience, just an eagerness to try out a wonderful game.

The Side
We have a reputation as a friendly club with a warm atmosphere.

We welcome parents to all coaching sessions and the clubhouse and bar are open where hot food and refreshments are available. We are keen to involve parents in the club and anyone wishing to help out in any capacity is welcome to talk to one of the coaches or volunteers at any time.

Prior notice of all fixtures will be provided. We travel by car to away matches with family and friends who are warmly invited to come along and offer your support.

We hope that we will be able to provide your child with the start of a lifetime of enjoyment of a wonderful sport that provides fun for all ages and backgrounds.

Come along and join one of Essex’s premier rugby clubs.
